The winter nights of May are ever so lovely in the Danish town that is Aarhus. SPOT Festival is only a mere fortnights away and Team Poule is properly pumped to drive up north. Among the golden ones in the line up are Copenhagen duo Palace Winter – who just vient de releasing a new single! HW Running is an homage to the movie There Will Be Blood, and as the band explains: “H.W. becomes the personification of the themes of this song with his love for his father and the tension between them as a clear reference point in the lyrics.”
This track really catapults them onto a whole new level, it feels like. The songwriting and composition are just perfect, great tempo, epic build up. They’re gonna be a must-see in Aarhus this year, playing Voxhall on Saturday night, 23h30. Their debut album Waiting for the World to Turn is set to be released June 3rd on super label Tambourhinoceros. Team Poule says, get ready, because they will be packing heavy.
In a world where nothing seems certain anymore, where nothing seems to be the way it used to be, where no beacon leads your way, in this world a new fuzzy force has emerged and placed itself neatly, riding the chillwaves at its peak. US and Swedish quartet FEWS are a fuzzy black and white aesthetic with crooning vocals and havoc wreaking guitars. Underneath the blurry mass though lures a deeply optimistic and forward looking agenda. Their debut album Means is set to be released on top-label PIAS next month, May 20th. Attached below is their new single 100 Goosebumps in visual and non-visual form.
You haven’t experienced the surfing sounds of FEWS to the full extent though if you haven’t seen them perform on a stage. Luckily, they traded their beach time this summer to play just about every relevant part of Europe. After are head line UK tour in May, they have lined up an impressive list of festivals, all of which to be found here. Team Poule says, what a ride!
The hottest Scandinavian bands, ice blue skies and countless magical moments are only a few fortnights away when Denmark’s second biggest city and the capital of Europe’s Region of Gastronomy 2017 Aarhus hosts SPOT Festival yet again. From April 29th to May 1st, more than 150 bands will play shows in various locations in and around Aarhus’ central music hall. A three night extravaganza on the hunt for the newest talents. Booked right next to obvious names like Kakkmaddafakka and 2016’s most hotly traded commodity Liss are Copenhagen’s Shy Shy Shy. Their indie pop is innocent and dreamy while at the same time being straight forward and just on-point. The video to their catchy Don’t Ask is pasted below. And their debut EP Love Songs came out last fall.
The duo will be playing on Saturday at 5pm at Voxhall and also in a daytime show at Fidels bar at 1pm. Furthermore, they have just been added to the line-up of Hamburg’s own MS Dockville this summer. Team Poule says, oh yeah gonna be hottt!
Yet another for one of those shiny Poule d’Or exclusives! Our favorite delight Guns has put forth a brand new video – which is attached below at your utmost convenience. Norwegian native Gunhild “Guns” Jarwson Tekle comes unarmed for this one, with nothing but a catchy song, VHS vibes and dramatic bath robe moves. Pulling the strings behind the scenes was Camilla Myhre, who already shot Guns’ Ricochet video. A dream team you might say!
Speaking of dream teams, Team Poule will be heading to SPOT Festival in fair old Aarhus next week and guess who is set to play a few songs on Friday night, Apr. 29th at 9? You know who. And more importantly, Guns has also been confirmed to do a spot at Roskilde this summer. Good things happening to good people. Team Poule says, we know exactly how you feel.
Hiding, in the shades, is Berlin’s own JYLDA. And she came packing heavy, with her new single Superficial up the sleeve – not pictured above – and mind you, it’s another one of those Poule d’Or exclusives! Superficial nicely continues her musical sort of Bond theme’esque journey. A truly grand sound. And, also hidden in the shadows, are the bits and pieces sampled on this one, from the buzzing of a scooter, the clunking of a construction site to the rustling of trees, JYLDA states about the recording process – so keep those ears peeled. The track itself then, tells the story of your average inner struggle, about being hard on yourself and your own achievements. Sound familiar? Team Poule says, you are not alone.
Did you know that a flock of crows is known as a murder? Crazy, right? Speaking of murder. Still Parade reportedly murdered it at SXSW last month and now have a new song out: Chamber came out last week and would even make a flock of crows blush. The track comes off their highly anticipated debut album Concrete Vision, out June 3rd. Now, in the meantime, catch their flying circus at Hamburg’s mad Häkken on May 20th, right before their album release show June 7th in Berlin. Team Poule says, crows huh, where did that come from?
