Spread your wings, relax your feet and legs and just let the maritime airs carry you for a bit. It is October now, and it comes packing cold winds, early nights and very sunny days still. Nothing beats a cold early fall day spent by sea when the sun still has those indian summer vibes. Reason enough then to release a seasoned playlist out into this autumnal setting. Attached below is Highball – a selection of rad, and new, tracks out on the Soundclouds of this Earth.
On it, you will find Melbourne’s SamTilley making the opening with a divine indie pop track, Los Angeles producer Warm Binary and one of his warm binaries, New Zealand’s Ghost Wave with a lovely fuzzy track, French producer Teagre and his vast snyths and vocals, Glasgow’s ISLE with a banging tropical fused gem, Italien indie poppers HAN and German indie pop heads Fluffy Floor.
Furthermore, indie treasures by Hunck, Look Vibrant, Psychic Shakes, Over Sands and Dead Heart Bloom, 80s vibes by Novelties and Arro Jones, and, finally, soothing electronic waves by Jonah Conrad and Silk Drop.
The full list is attached below, at your convenience. Team Poule says, take aim, and give it a go.
The sun has set over 2016s Reeperbahn Festival, which went down smooth as silk last weekend in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg. The festival is a celebration of young talents and as such, a favorite playground for Team Poule. Over 400 bands playing their little hearts out in clubs and venues of all sizes alongside the Reeperbahn street. More 38.000 people attended Reeperbahn Festival which lasted four days this year. One of Team Poule’s favorites this year at Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival are Danish rock poppers Palace Winter. The duo of producer Caspar Hesselager and singer Carl Coleman is finally making a stop in Hamburg. The driving force of Carl’s distinct vocals and Caspar’s on-point production has made them a brand name in the past year. Waiting For The World To Turn is the name of their debut full length and surely one of your year-end-lists, out on Tambourhinoceros. The two of them alongside a full-on live band will be playing Indra on Friday, 22h45.
And, psst, if you just can’t get enough of them, catch them on their head line European tour this fall at Hamburg’s Häkken for a full set on October 30th – presented by Poule d’Or. Attached below is their stellar single H.W. Running, an hommage to the movie There Will Be Blood. Team Poule says, #RBF16 and Palace Winter – a match made in heaven.
The evolution Reeperbahn Festival took in the past few years has actually been quite amazing. Steady year on year growth in attendance has turned the music festival that takes place in over 70 venues all around Hamburg’s Reeperbahn street into Germany’s biggest club festival, attracting more than 32.000 visitors over each of its four days. And while some festivals struggle to balance growth and booking quality, Reeperbahn Festival almost singlehandedly manages to bring some of the great newcomers of the summer as well as some proper indie headliners to town each year. Over 450 bands have made it into the line up this year. And there is a whole range of art programs throughout the schedule too.
At the same time, Reeperbahn Festival has developed into one of the major tech and music industry meetings in Europe. Sort of like a SXSW in Hamburg’s St. Pauli district. A historically red light and amusement district attached to the Elbe river and harbour that nowadays usually attracts tourist and chubby party lovers from the suburbs. Not on the last weekend of September though. From September 21st to 24th, it seems, culture is taking control of the heterogenous club scene across St. Pauli.
And Bloody Nora, what a musical line up they put together for the 11th edition this year. Team Poule favorites include the renamed and restyled band formerly known as Rangleklods: Blondage, as well as grand masters Wild Beasts, French pop band Hyphen Hyphen, German rockets Sea Moya, Still Parade, Woman and Vimes, and attached below, finally, Yumi Zouma. The New Zealand quartet released a magnificent album on Cascine and are currently touring relevant parts of Australia, Japan and China, before making a stop in Hamburg on their way into Italy, Israel, and the UK. Catch Yumi Zouma at Prinzenbar on Friday, 21h10. Team Poule says, oh #RBF16 you will be quite the ride.
September 1st, when the sun turned, and days have already started getting shorter while the nights are just getting longer again. In this setup of long shadows and orange skies comes the second release in Swedish producer IAMBEAR’s Kattegatt series. Vol. 2 serves as a perfect companion for your warm indian summer evening, sipping rosé, treating yourself to the grand things in life. Thus, attached below the exclusive premiere – alongside Swedish site Popmuzik – of title track Kattegatt and the encrypted 001.
Now, Vol. 1 came out in August via heavyweights Ja Ja Ja and the frosty back three of the five volumes series will be out throughout this month. The album, then, to see the days of light and life on October 7th via Swedish label Sommarhjärta. Team Poule says, you push my buttons IAMBEAR.
Brace is what you don’t want your average flight attend to hear saying. On a flight to Japan, for instance. Where Team Poule will be going next week. If you have a line or two drop about that, please feel free to do so. Credentials on the right sidebar. Brace is also the title of Copenhagener Sekuoia’s latest gem. On board for this one – the track – is Mr Marc Roland, the prominent singer of fellow Danish dynamites Kentaur. A match up that couldn’t possibly end up sounding anymore smooth than this, a fair dose of synth and pop balanced out with a hint to general funkiness. Brace is out now on Berlin label Humming Records. Team Poule says, it’s all about stacking them up right.
