If more than 200 bands and four days of music in bars, clubs, theatres and concert halls sound like something you could see yourself interested in – good news! Hamburg’s prestigious Reeperbahn Festival is going down next week, September 17-20. And really, the line-up couldn’t be much nicer this year. While lacking a monster head liner, sort of, the festival neatly follows its tradition of bringing together the young faces and newcomers giving them a stage and a hungry audience.

The first pick Team Poule would like to direct your attention on is Hamburgs own Aron Pfeil. Melodic rock, very poppy, very radio and very new. Attached is his song Feels Like Home. Catch him play at record store Hanseplatte on Saturday 21h00 for those Rob Fleming vibes. Look out for a debut album in spring.

Red hot new this one. Danish Californian super duo The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen released today the first video off their upcoming debut album. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen are rapper Note from San Diego and producer Simon of When Saints Go Machine fame. And funnily enough the two only met for the first time in 2012 – after having made music together for five years and releasing an EP on Tambourhinoceros.

For the creative journey of producing their new album the two were closely followed by Danish film makers KnockKnock for the purpose of a documentary movie. A teaser was released in May for SPOT Festival – which also was their first European gig.

September is here! And this week, from Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th, the lovely love birds of Nordic by Nature and Our/Berlin play host to their very own Our/Berlin Music Week as part of Berlin Music Week. Three days, filled with cold beverages, excellent catering, and of course loads of musical cherries waiting to be picked. One of the more than fifteen bands that are going to play are Göteborg’s DNKL – dark electronic sort spheric pop. Intense.

DNKL are playing Thursday at 8, just after old vagabond Dinner. Also look forward to Adna, Sandra Kolstad, Henrik José and really only the finest of what Scandinavia has to offer. Our/Berlin Music Week starts Wednesday at 3 at Oberhafenkantine.

Swedish ensemble Sameblod spent the summer in the nature of the North, lounging, levitating, reaching out to some of the finest names on both sides of the Atlantic for their upcoming remix EP. With remixes it’s always astonishing that you can hear the distinct Sameblod sound right through, while at the same time also clearly having the Is Tropical vibes. Like a best of both worlds. Dockville – you were really cold this year. And rainy. And yet, and YET with arguably one of the deepest line-ups in years, you were absolutely amazing. The little Hamburgers of this city have rocked the rain away, and you know that you gotta twist a move to shake that crawling cold off. The atmosphere really has been especially great this year.

MS Dockville marks the end of an art-packed month around the festival area on the island Wilhelmsburg, only a few minutes from the city centre. During the month leading up to the festival from mid-July, all forms of art are equally celebrated during MS Artville, Lüttville, Kunstcamp, Butterland Open Air and Vogelball: there a sculptures, paintings, photos, handicrafts and everything you can imagine really. A lot of electronic music under the starry skies too. From a travelling point of view, this is the time to visit this fair city of Hamburg.

And this is precisely what makes MS Dockville so fun. The nature of the festival area – with trees and crickets at night on one side and the Elbe river and harbour industry on the other – and the traces of the numerous art installations of the weeks before. And then there is the music. No less that eight stages and oh my, this year saw SOHN, Flume, Jagwar Ma, Cashmere Cat, Kaytranada (attached above), Dream Koala and oh so many more great artists playing wonderful sets despite the not very festival like meteorological conditions.
