Sweden’s delicious little pop tarts Death In The Afternoon have been around for quite a while and it feels like they are constantly re-inventing themselves. Their debut in 2011 was very rock and their second album quite 80s. They now have their third album lined up for release later this year on Stockholm’s hottest label Sommarhjärta – and judged by the great first single Let’s Talk it’s neatly set in poppy middle of both their other albums. A good excuse to catch up with Linda and Christian of Death In The Afternoon.
Feels semi-weird that apparently it’s mid-September already – almost time to start thinking about those best-of lists again. One name that is very high up on Team Poule’s list this year is Danish sensation My Heart The Brave. A project of producer Caspar Hesselager from Copenhagen. He released an absolutely phenomenal self-titled EP earlier this year. One of those 30-minute-delights that give you goosebumps everytime. A beautiful production, and as an avid Poule d’Or follower you will no doubt remember.
So today, it is a great pleasure to host the world premiere of his new video for the latest single off said EP: Promise (Burns) – the last song and one of the quieter numbers on his epic EP. It’s always amazing how, when you listened to a song a lot, you get your own idea of what the song looks like, like your own video for it. And then, when there actually is a video for the song, the video makes you listen to the song in a totally new way.
The video was presumably shot in the Danish country side, and directed by Hans Høite Augustenborg and My Heart The Brave himself. Look out for awesome little Sigurd Bencke as well as Carl Høite Augustenborg and Sejr Abildgaard. Take it away.
Now Sydney’s Rüfüs have made quite the career ever since they shared their banger We Left for the fifth Poule d’Or compilation back in 2010, amassing a mere 100k facebook followers and several world tours. This week the trio will make their first appearance in Hamburg for Reeperbahn Festival. Rather well timed because their truly fantastic new album titled Atlas just came out in Europe. Sugar sweet electro pop without being too much, you know. Summer vibes.

Here is the big one for Reeperbahn Festival this week: French dream pop ensemble Isaac Delusion. The quartet around Jules Paco and Loic Fleury has been around for a handful of years and neatly combines the essences of electro pop and a sort of dreamy folk’ish attitude. Hazy vocals and floating electro beats will make their show at Mojo Club one you do not want to miss. If you are into the House of Lies tv show, you might even recognize a song or two that made it all the way to Hollywood and into Don Cheadle’s dressing room, presumably.

It really is a rather fantastic line up the good lads over at Reeperbahn Festival have put together this year. One of the great names not to miss is Sway Clarke II. Sort of neo-soul and a voice that gives you goose bumps. Born in Toronto and now based in Berlin for several years, he actually played Reeperbahn Festival a couple of years ago. Now, this year, with a major label deal under his wings, Sway is set to return strong and ferociously and with an album to drop before Christmas.

One not to miss at Reeperbahn Festival next week will be british ensemble Nimmo & The Gauntletts. And while the official festival booklet claims they only have two singles out, avid Poule d’Or followers will surely remember their debut EP Young Lights that came out in 2011. And the song Chin Up they shared for the tenth Poule d’Or compilation. However, since then, the group around singers Sarah Nimmo and Reva Gauntlett have had a single out on French uber label Kitsuné and also claimed a major record deal. They are set to rule the world, at least. Two singles trickled out of their studio and whenever they play a show in their home base London it is usually sold out quite fast. So, these guys will be one you want to check out while they still play the cozy venues. Cheers to that, Reeperbahn Festival.
