Fancy hanging out in art galleries by night with Die Selektion?

Die Selektion is the creative outlet of three lads Luca Gillian, Max Rieger and Hannes Rief. Together they produce a dark new wave mix of trumpets, rhythmic club tunes and plangent vocals (did I just use the word plangent?!). Their debut EP Kühle Lippen dropped last month and the trio is busily preparing the release of their first album Noire.

Die Selektion – Kühle Lippen

The Kühle Lippen EP is up for streaming on soundcloud, feel free to grab a hard copy through their online shop.

Luca, Max and Hannes were nice enough and took the time to reveal a little bit about themselves, so get to know this exciting and most surprisingly german band:

Where are you from?

From Verbicaro, Italy & Stuttgart, Germany.

Where did you meet each other?

Hannes & Luca went to school together, Luca met Max at a concert.

What does your recording process look like?

Max comes with a rough structure of a song, based on a drum beat or synth line. Luca writes the lyrics and we puzzle out the trumpet sounds together. After we rehearsed the song a few time, we record it take by take.

What are major influences to your music?

Nitzer Ebb, Depeche Mode & especially D.A.F

What would be the ideal environment to listen to your music?

An art gallery by night.

Do you wear fancy clothes on stage?

We always wear fancy clothes.

What’s your favourite take away food?

Boys & Girls.

What animal would you adopt and why?

We really adore a dog named Boo. Check out his Facebook page.

Press play on your iPod and list the first three songs that come up.

Einstürzende Neubauten – The Garden, Depeche Mode – Boys Say Go, Clan of Xymox – A Day

Would you like to live anywhere else?

Oslo, Prague, Moscow, Dresden…

Thanks for taking the time, danke schön!
