What’s left of 2009

2009 presented us avid listeners with some really enjoyable albums and at the beginning of each new calendar it’s common habit to take one nostalgic look back and re-capture the greatest additions to our iTunes libraries in various best-of rosters. The new year however quickly produces fresh music waiting to be discovered and only few of the just-praised actually make it through the next summer proving their intrinsic values. These 6 pieces of art still rotate frequently on the Poule’s record player and are hence worth being listed in a best-of list that is concluded with the needed distance and judgment to safely say: those are the albums that made the difference in 2009!

(in no particular order)

FM Belfast – How To Make Friends : rad tracks from first to last – might be biased due to the tremendous live impression they made on the Poule.

Metronomy – Not Made For Love : never really fell in love with their other songs, but the 3 tracks on this EP are absolutely brilliant.

Miike Snow – Miike Snow : Brandon of The Burning Ear said they “murdered everything in 2009” and he is definitely true. And they still are. Gorgeous debut album, can’t wait for a follow-up.

We Are Enfant Terrible – Thanks For The Fish : 5 great, passionate and bouncy tracks. And Parisien. Simply good music. Easy as that.

The xx – xx : obviously.

Kid Cudi – Man On The Moon: The End Of Day : Very awesome debut album by Kanye’s protégé. So much more quality beyond Day ‘N’ Nite.

What’s your take?
