There has to be some secret vitamin in the Swedish tap water that makes those kids up there more aesthetically aware and talented than people anywhere else in the world. Not saying it’s all talent, Sweden is obviously doing at least something right in education in order to push the creative minds into pursuing their respective fields of interest, I guess. It certainly is a thing that Sweden has more good music per capita than any other country. At least music that Team Poule is into.

So where is this all going? Colleagues are a young ensemble from Stockholm. Only a handful of released tracks, but woo-hoo they sound absolutely brilliant. Really promising stuff. Hit that play button. And forget everything else.

Great dreamy shoegaze coming our way from Brooklyn – Lazyeyes only have a few two songs up on their bandcamp, but they are well worth a mention. A four-track EP is said to be out before Christmas, so stay put. Also if you are looking for a post-hurricane activity on Saturday night, the lads are playing Glasslands in Brooklyn tomorrow. I think that’s something you could see yourself interested in.

Duck House is the beautiful solo project of The Cads’ front singer Stefan. He already shared his track Flaw for the tenth Poule d’Or compilation – which you can still download for free from the left sidebar by the way. So here is another brand new song from him, absolutely loving the smooth beats on Breathe Slow. It’s not just the music though, Duck House’s accompanying visual art is making me happy as a pig in shit as well – see for instance this vintage De Niro pic on his facebook page. Or the elephants above, with the clever yellow line and letters over the top of them. Amazing stuff.

He is readying a full EP for release this winter, I suggest you keep an eye on that. Even if it’s just for the cover art. Also, Duck House will play a couple of shows in Germany just before Christmas, Cologne Dec 11th, Hamburg Dec 13th and Berlin Dec 14th. He’ll be supporting The Cads / himself. If that makes any sense.

Hardly a secret or even brand new at this point – BUT Twin Shadow’s new album Confess has been on harvy rotation at Poule d’Or headquarters throughout the whole summer and it righteously deserves its own post. Dominican-native George Lewis Jr’s first album Forget was an instant hit in 2010, so a second album always comes with high expectations and the risk of leaving people disappointed. But not this one. An absolutely wonderful collection of hazy new wave inspired pop music. It even sounds better in autumn!

Twin Shadow is also taking his new album on a tour across Europe. His flying circus will play London tomorrow, November 1st, Paris on the 3rd, Berlin the 14th and Hamburg on the 15th. If you’re into music, you should get your tickets right now – all dates etc, here.

New Frontier: S-Type

One of my favorite record labels right now, Glasgow-based LuckyMe, and home of DJs/producers like Lunice, Machinedrum, and co-labelfounder Hudson Mohawke just released ‘Billboard’, the Debut EP of DJ and producer S-Type. In the likes of LuckyMe, S-Type is a hip hop producer with a tendency to electronic music. I don’t know about the video of the lead single…S-Type aka Bobby Perman running through Central Park… but I so groove to his beats. The staggered drums, the melodies, the funk, S-type is giving with his 6-track long EP a solid and strong debut.

I know it’s only Tuesday, but oh I’m ready for the weekend. I’m turning up the speakers really loud, head nodding to S-Type’s beats and I dont care what my office mates think of me weirdo chick right now.

More winter music. And Silent Rider actually is a bit of a phenomenon. He totally sounds like a group of people, but it’s actually the solo project of Reed Kackley from Brooklyn. Just stumbled upon his debut album going through my download folder – and it turns out Reed has been emailing Poule d’Or for over a year. Shame on La Poule!

Silent Rider actually did start out as a duo and with a cover a TV On The Radio song in summer 2011. It was only earlier this month though that Silent Rider – now on his own – released a debut album. Twelve tracks of really great sort of downtempo electronic pop. Super good. And totally free to download from his website here. Below is one of his first solo songs Beggar. The album also features earlier works co-produced by his then-band-mate Michael Santiago.
