Gah. So the winter made an unfortunate comeback. Christmas and New Year’s Eve were unreasonably “hot” – and then BOOM, it’s freezing again. Like, what the hell. Team Poule was ready for shorts and spring time. However, it’s that time of the year to curl up in front of the fire place. And this is where Bergen from Italy and Scotland come into play. The duo released a great little four track on bandcamp last week, dream pop at its finest.
So here is a fun fact for you. First morceau du jour on Poule d’Or? Cold Dust Girl by Hey Champ – and this is where the wheel is come full circle: Hey Champ got a new song out. Oh it’s so cliché. No, that’s the name of the song… and it’s dreamy electropoppy greatness. Attached below for your convenience. Found this on my new favorite music blog Socks and Sandals from blogging hot bed Belgium, kudos.
Got this lovely inbox from Kevin of Love Inks promoting their second album which will be out in February. Second album you say?! I didn’t even know there was a first one! So then I listened to their bandcamp page and even before hitting play instantly liked the artwork – which is ALWAYS a plus. So but then the music was really great. And these are preview songs for said upcoming album – they’re pure bliss and you should head over to bandcamp and stream away. Don’t miss the lush Magazine Street too. And I’m Gone. All of them really. The Poule is hooked. Speaking of which, should try to get that first album under the Poule’s wings..
Really tired of trying to put music into genres and all. Just file this under: Hurts meets Depeche Mode, slash good. Delaykliniken, trio from Stockholm. They have a new EP out, free on bandcamp. That’s what we do when we are young.
Take a portion of Thom Yorke’s soft electronic production and stir it up with a scent of Wild Nothing’s warm riffs – out comes this quartet from Provo, located about 69 km south of Salt Lake City along the Wasatch Front. Polytype have just released Refract, the first single off their debut album Basic//Complex which will be out February 1st. A perfect blend of dreamy guitars and synths.
Congratulations to us – Poule d’Or is turning three years old today!! The past year was the most exciting one yet for a number of reasons:
2012 was the year, Poule d’Or relaunched on a wordpress.org platform. Look around, good looking Poule hey?
2012 was the year, you guys downloaded the 9.000th compilation! Thanks so much for still being interested, for downloading, for sharing. It’s so much fun!! Two new compilations last year, 9 and 10. Still up for grabs, find all of them nice and clean here.
2012 was the year, we added a writer: my friend Chin is running our New Frontier segment – really proud of the nuggets she’s is digging up there, check it out. Make sure you follow her on twitter too!
2012 was the year, we covered three major festivals as members of the press – SXSW in March, Flow in August and Reeperbahn in September. Fantastic festivals, all of them. It’s so much fun taking this offline and outside the bandcamp, Soundcloud universe.
2012 was the year, I had a conversation with Feist – and didn’t realize until months later. Not sure what that says about the degree of professionalism here at Poule d’Or – or about Feist’s chatty skills to be honest..
So, 2012 was the best year yet really. Can’t wait to get this fourth year started, really excited! Cheers to four more years! Wink. Let’s get it started with the amazing Duck House, who I’m really excited to hear more from this year. Here is Run – free for download too!
