July has been a shit summer month in most parts of Europe BUT it’s been an absolute blast music-wise with The Cads, Saint Motel, Work Drugs, Germany Germany and Twin Shadow releasing extraordinary performances of their art. Need more ears. Now, here come Bravestation adding their name to that list. Expectedly.
The four Canadians have been working on this album for two years and we have been impatiently waiting since what feels like a differentcentury. Giants & Dreamers finally saw the day of light on July 10th – it’s 9 songs are all exceptionally well produced and give you the feeling of a warm summer sunset in a (presumably) Canadian forest. When everything seems possible. A truly wonderful collection of new wave tropical pop songs up for streaming on Soundcloud and bandcamp.
Attached is Flourescent Scenes, perfect display of what they do best. Oh those warm tunes. It’s an inside warm though, right? Not like hot hot heat in the sun. More like at a fire place. Three things to take on a deserted island? This album.
Seattle’s amazing Beat Connection added two members and are now busy taking over the world. Camp Poule d’Or was fortunate enough to secure one of their greats In The Water for the fourth compilation in their early days, almost two years ago. It’s all been straight uphill for Reed and Jordan since then. Here is Palace Garden, 4am – the lead single to their debut album The Palace Garden which will finally be out and available everywhere August 6th. So much happiness – just makes you feel good listening to their tropical pop tunes. Again again again!
Oy – what a music week. First Saint Motel release their EPIC debut album and two ears aren’t really enough this week because The Cads also decided to go for it and unleashed their first LP to the streaming public. Hit that play button below. Lesson:Illustrated is a magnificent collection of fine indiepop songs that are just so much fun to listen to. Makes you feel like anything is possible. What more could you ever from an album?
9 new and previously unreleased songs – including a new interpretation of one of their first greats Crayola. On top of that the guys from Ipswich are the most fun live, so go see them if you can. An extended European tour is said to be in the works for this fall. But it doesn’t stop just there. See the image above? That is a collage front singer and multi-talent Stefan did – the man who also found a wild Rihanna (yes!).
The CD will be out August 20th on Deaf Surfer Music. Until then: stream away – it won’t be up there forever..!
French indiepoppeurs Colours In The Street released a rather good demo EP almost a year ago. Only just stumbled upon it, here is one of the more introverted tracks Like A Hero. Stream the entire product on Soundcloud if you will.
They are playing Artchikult au Café A in Paris this weekend – be sure not to miss their set on Sunday at the café at 19h30.
Love The Freedom Fries. Spent a fair amount of time with the adorable Bruce and Marie in L.A. and at SXSW when Lucy (vs. the Globe) and I toured the United States. Here comes their latest single – premiered on Kickkicksnare today. I mean look at them, actually the cutest. Love the seagull around 1:40. Always loving a good seagull.
The video was filmed on a beach in Malibu that, reportedly, attracts a fair amount of musicians and hipsters when the lighting is right shooting their videos/ doing their thing. Also don’t miss their concept EP Outlaws, and their track Tallest Dreams on Poule d’Or 9 (left side bar).
