Posted about Saint Motel a couple of times already – so this should not come as a surprise. On record, they sound like one of those bands that could potentially end up having wayyy too many people on stage. Saw a band at SXSW this year who actually had 11 people on stage – including 2 drum sets (!?) and 3 bass players: NO, just NO. Just start a second band.

Anyway, the Los Angeles vagabonds of Saint Motel are releasing their debut album Voyeur today – and it is both RAD and NEW (hence this category). Following their witty singles 1997 and Benny Goodman, the entire album is stuffed with fantastic folk’ish (not too much – just right) indie pop songs. But it’s not just the music. If you listen to the lyrics closely, you might find yourself laughing in tears or just being all what the hell, how did you even come up with that?!

See 1997 and Benny Goodman for instance, or Honest Feedback below: “Of all the illegal ways to end someone’s life, there’s one just as sharp and it’s sharp as a knife.” – I mean, this is gold. And at the same time Voyeur is that kind of music that brightens up your day and if you turn the volume up, chances are you’ll find yourself jumping up and down around the house – possibly in need to explain yourself. Voyeur is great fun from start to finish – on repeat here.

Ah – always love finding Museum of Bellas Artes in my inbox. It’s a rare occasion. Cute new video filmed above the roofs of Stockholm (?). Also find them on compilations 1 and 5 – in the handy left side bar.

Got tipped off to Sinah by a mutual friend – small world indeed. Turns out London-resident Sinah Blohberger, who wants to be pronounced Xena – however that works? – actually produces quite rad electro/ambient triphop. Her new (debut) EP entitled Nobody Knows Sinah is out for free on bandcamp. I suggest you get over there and snag one of the precious free downloads so that her next EP can be called Everybody Knows Sinah – HA, see what I did there?!

Sinah – Nobody Knows

From July 13th to 15th Café A in Paris is hosting the third Artchikult Festival. Three days packed with French and internationally rising rock and pop bands playing on three stages in the café, the chapel and the garden. Poule d’Or readers are (once again) in luck because we got our hands on two 3-day-passes waiting for one lucky winner! All you have to do is click this link and follow the instructions.

Among the line-up for this years’ music part are the greats of Colours In The Street, Hyphen Hyphen and Velocity Bird. Find the full schedule on facebook. Artchikult is also host for artist exhibitions and installations ranging from light, video and design to photo and visual art displays. A really interesting mix and melding of various art forms in a ‘jolie’ venue just off Canal St. Martin in the 10th arrondissement.

Philadelphia’s charming Work Drugs, who reportedly ran into troubles trying to enter Canada with their bandname, dropped a new single off their upcoming album. Pluto is a song about someone “you once loved, and now don’t even recognize” – wrapped into dreamy cosmic disco tunes. Always a winner. Ben and Tom’s new album entitled Absolute Bearing is now available for pre-order on workdrugs.com and will be out worldwide July 10th through Bobby Cahn Records.

Not even sure WHERE to begin with My Tiger My Timing. Loved the London five-tet long before Poule d’Or even existed and I’ve been eeeagerly awaiting their debut album forever. No longer. Celeste is here! A collection of ten songs released through their own label Snakes & Ladders, some of the songs sound familiar, they shared some for Poule d’Or compilations and most of them are red hot new and unreleased.

They aren’t being overly experimental or groundbreakingly new in their sound and yet listening to Celeste just makes everything better. It’s an inner happiness they bring out with their light tunes and lovely melodies. But don’t be fooled by their cute outside – keep an ear on the lyrics and you’ll find that there is indeed a tiger lurking behind that little kitty cat. From first to last, it is an overall great mix of happy pop songs.

Celeste is out July 2nd. Find more songs on their Soundcloud – and free downloads on Poule d’Or compilations 3,4, 7 and 8.
