Last month Hamburg’s prestigious Astra Stube hosted a fine bunch of Norwegians and Disaster In The Universe put on one of the most amazing concerts Team Poule ever attended. They transformed the somewhat livingroom-like venue into a tropical jungle paradise: palm trees, leaves, neon colours on their faces. Custom draperies along the monitors and up the walls. Beautiful. And they wore sort of tights with aztec patterns – effortlessly pulling it off in a Kanye West I-can-stand-there-in-a-speedo-and-still-be-looked-at-like-a-fucking-hero-style. Those guys!
And then of course there was the music. Infectious indie pop with an electronic-folk-ish twist. They sport one of those wooden sort of tribal-looking xylophones on stage, not sure what they are called – but loving them. So this is their latest brilliant single Recovering – certainly one of Team Poule’s favorites this year. They shared the track for the new Poule d’Or compilation too, so if you dig the song – grab a free download on Poule d’Or 11 here.
Sweden’s This Is Head – or rather no head – released a great album titled 0001 two years ago. And now they return with an all new album and to much confusion it’s NOT numbered but goes by the concise title of The Album ID – which isn’t much more telling really. Either way, it’s the product and not (just) the wrapping and the four southern Swedes know what they’re doing pretty well.
The Album ID continues their infectious pop rock sound with an electronic indie sort of twist. Something that is well up Team Poule’s alley. Attached is the beautiful Time’s An Ocean. And as with most bands, this bunch is best to be consumed live and you are once again in luck!
The quartet will play Berlin this Wednesday the 22nd (presented by our fine friends at Nordic by Nature) and then go on touring most relevant parts of Germany: Hamburg’s Molotow on the 24th, Leipzig, München and a handful of other cities. Find all dates here. The Album ID is out already and quite the sensation in Sweden, available through Adrian Recordings.
Hamburg’s beat-wizard par excellence Kirrin Island spent all winter in his lab coat and goggles, busily tweaking and twisting, working on his new album. The finished product titled Cassette will be out not on cassette but in a handy CD-format and an even more handy download next Monday, May 20th through Bloody Hands Ltd.
To celebrate the occasion, Kirrin Island along with a handful of friends and fans invites you to join him for the release party at Hamburg’s Kraniche, this Saturday May 18th. Now, Team Poule does know a good party and this certainly is one not to miss. Be there, it’s going to be hot and tropical.
Attached is Brothers (uh uh ah ah check it) from his new album: vintage Kirrin Island quality, catchy beats and this fine sense for multi-layered melodies.
Presenting – the all new 11th Poule d’Or Compilation: soundtrack to what will be a great summer! It is an absolute charm putting together these compilations, everytime. Berlin’s ambassadors of beat, fun and serious conversations Tubbe unleashed another hot one from their fantastic Wellensittich-laden debut album Eiscafe Ravetto. The duo was nice enough to share some intimate childhood memories with Poule d’Or back in February and went on touring major parts of Europe. After that, apparently, they just drove around nighttime Berlin, looking for a glowing cat – or something.
Our besties Frederick and Mikael – not pictured above – stepped out of their Swedish cabin today with the first single off their upcoming EP titled SWOON. Norwegian Summer has vast synths, Mike’s reverbed vocals and that special Nordic Sameblod flavour. This cozy cold vibe. Beautiful.
Swoon will be out May 31st on Riot Factory. Don’t miss the release party at Debaser Medis in Stockholm, May 25th. Forget the Champions League final. The fine lads of Colleagues will also play, I suggest you get right on that.
