Poule d’Or 11 graduate Hibou rolled another big one. Sunder – second single off his upcoming debut EP Dunes. Warm dreamy riffs, straight up that Beach Fossils alley. Super good.
Some new Karl X Johan homemade bliss taking us into the weekend – the Swedish duo has been blessing us here at Poule HQ with instant bangers for some time now, sharing a track for the fourth Poule d’Or compilation in July 2010.
It looks as though things are slooowly getting more serious with them. They have set an ambitious release date for their debut album: April 25th 2014. That is, twenty-fourteen. Thursday after Easter. Get ready.
To you fellow music bloggers: you know this one a million song that makes it worth listening through loads of shit music in your inbox. This is one of those diamonds. Baby Alpaca – Wild Child. Instant love. Beautiful folk’ish indie pop, sort of in a fresher Foals vibe. So impeccably good. It might be the fact that they sport one of those autoharps. Maybe that is IT.
The Brooklyn duo has a fantastic debut EP ready for release on Atlas Chair Records, June 25th – put that in your calendar. This is “of the year” material we are talking about here. Totally in love. Also when I tried to google Baby Alpaca – I didn’t find much else but loads of photos of baby alpacas. Which is quite satisfying too.
Sweden’s amazing Sameblod follow up their spectacular debut album from last year with an all new EP titled Swoon. Frederick and Mike released the first single Norwegian Summer a couple weeks ago and it’s dreamy bliss – Frederick’s vast synths, Mike’s reverbed vocals and this addictive cozy cold vibe.
But really they are one of those bands whose full spectrum only unfolds with matching visuals. So, see above the beautiful new video by Albin Sjodin. Oh to spend time in the cozy Scandinavian countryside, with a long-haired brunette, crushing ice blocks, in the summer. Swoon will be out this Friday May 31st on Riot Factory.
Banging fresh electro pop from – yes – Scandinavia. Kate Boy sounds more like Kate than Boy, however it’s a group of three Swedes and an Australian. And if you dig Icona Pop but feel like they are getting a tad too mainstream for your gusto – this is where to put your money.
Likewise, they are best consumed live and luckily have a handful of ace dates lined up. Catch them in Berlin this Friday at Privatclub presented by the ladyfaces at Nordic by Nature before the quartet is off to New York, Toronto, Chicago and San Francisco for an extended US tour in June. Win tickets for the Berlin gig with the wonderful puppies over at PonyDanceClyde.
Last week Team Poule got on their bicycles and went to Copenhagen to see the amazing FEWS play a show at Spillestedet Stengade – supporting this band called Beach Fossils. Yep. It was a rainy Tuesday and freezing cold and yet the people of Copenhagen know what’s good and came out to see the lads.
The American-Swedish combo of FEWS had the audience eating out of their hands, infectious indie rock slash dream pop with the most catchy melodies. They only have a few (no pun intended) songs online and be sure there is more where that came from. FEWS played a banging set, these lads are certainly one to keep an eye on. Fingers crossed they’ll manage to record some of the beauties they played. Ace stuff, right there. Oh and Beach Fossils were alright too. Also, if you live in Göteborg, make sure you catch FEWS at Klub Rudis this Friday. Going to be hot and sexy for sure.
Attached is their banger 10 Things – off Poule d’Or 10. Snag a free download here. Seriously though, Beach Fossils. Epic concert. These guys don’t mess around.
