SXSW 2012 Recap #3: Blondfire

Blondfire are Bruce (of Freedom Fry fame > grab on Poule d’Or 9) and his sister Erica. They played at The Parish at 2.30pm and it would be a vast exaggeration to say the place was packed at this early hour.. nevertheless the duo and their drummer put on a wonderful show and you could tell they enjoy what they’re doing and that’s what it’s all about. They are based in Los Angeles, so try to catch them there if you can.

SXSW 2012 Recap #2: Breton

Breton was one the bands I was looking forward to most to see in Austin and I had the chance to catch two of their shows, one at Latitude and the other at Red 7. Both shows were actually amazing. What sounds epic on record sounds even more exciting on stage. Two super energetic sets which reminded me of a more parent-friendly version of Is Tropical. And despite playing multiple shows they went through the trouble of playing a video background to each of their shows > incredible. Those guys!

Woozy. This one makes the Poule’s plumage tickle in all sorts of ways. The dreamy greatness of our two favorite Swedes combined > pure bliss.

SXSW 2012 Recap #1: Anoraak

The entire team of Poule d’Or spent the last week in Austin at South by Southwest as part of a bigger adventure that you can follow here. It was my first time at SXSW and surprisingly I caught pretty much every show I wanted to see. So here goes a little series on who we saw and particularly liked.

The first showcase we saw was at Mohawk Patio with Anoraak and Housse de Racket among the exclusively french the line-up. A vibrant tip-off to SXSW on Wednesday night with a packed audience. Housse de Racket expectedly put on an epic show, go see them if you can. Absolutely brilliant. Anoraak on the other hand was the bigger surprise. The Parisian trio had the entire hipster audience eating out of their hands with their synth-driven show which was way more forward and rocky than their recorded material.

Belgium’s Teddiedrum released a new single from their highly anticipated upcoming debut EP European Weekend, set to be released 16th of April. Brilliant pop music, don’t sleep on this.
