MS Dockville 2014: Dream Koala

dream koalaIt’s that time of the year again. The loving green island of Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg is playing host to one of the finest reasons to pay this great city a visit: MS Dockville opens it doors 15-17 August. And this year a whole range of planets seem to be in line, not only has this summer been absolutely hot and sizzling and fingers crossed it can carry on a bit more, no this year’s line-up is packeddd with very exciting names. While sort of lacking the uber-big head liner, it feels like this year, Dockville has one of the deepest line-ups ever: Flume, Sohn, Ry X, Cashmere Cat, Breton, Sun Glitters.. Mac De Marco, Kakkamaddafakka, Mø, Milky Chance, Chet Faker, it really is a brilliant range of exciting names on this years timetable.

Also on the rather long list of great things waiting to happen is Dream Koala, french dream pop legend and self-proclaimed post j-pop artist. He will be playing one of the last gigs at Klüse stage on Sunday night 23.15 – with a stellar view on the harbour. Attached below is the great track Earth of his new EP.

Way Out West 2014: Zhala

zhala_1Way Out West is drawing closer and one of the many great and talented Swedish names on the line-up is Stockholm’s Zhala. Heavy electronic beats, driving hooks and the typical lightness of Swedish pop music. Cosmic pop. Ice cold. She will be one not to miss in Göteborg this week. Attached below is the intense single Prophet off her debut EP which is out on Konichiwa Recordings – Robyn’s label. Hit that.

Way Out West 2014: Yumi Zouma

yumi zoumaSurely another hit you do not want to miss at Way Out West this week: Yumi Zouma. The lovely New Zealanders play one of the finest dream pop tunes you will ever hear. It’s 80s, it’s disco, it’s laid back, it’s ultimately pop. Should be a great show in fresh Göteborg. The trio released a fantastic EP on Cascine earlier this year. Attached below is their 80s-fused Riquelme.

Sakuraya_NeonSuper into this. Remember our old pay Future Sound? This guy. He is part of this great new ensemble called Eilen operating out of America’s East Coast, presumably Florida. Ultra smooth downtempo, sort of 80s but rap’ish and very pop – the perfect soundtrack to a little twilight ride on your bicycle on a hot summer night, watching the sun dipping into the ocean. It’s the first single off their upcoming album Slow Advances – don’t miss.

You will also be pleased to learn that American Apparel deemed this song worth soundtracking their latest lingerie ad. Here is the video, casual.

Dev Hynes has been around in various formats for a while and still Team Poule hasn’t had a chance to see this man’s mighty live show. Good thing then that Blood Orange will be making a stop in Göteborg to play a few songs at Way Out West this week. Up above is his trademark single Chamakay off his second album that came out last year. Channeling Future Islands-like dance moves on this one. I reckon this should be equally exciting on a stage.

laura_jaeRad soul-fused sort of electro pop coming in from London’s Laura Jae. Minimal electro beats combined with powerful vocals, the stuff summer nights under the starry sky as well as inside a club are made of. Slip a drink in your hand and hit play.

Attached below is the smooth number Nostalgic off her debut EP Silver Lined Hearts which is out for free on her Soundcloud.
