When Baby Smith here felt like they needed a change of scenery from Sydney, Australia to pursue their creative process, they decided to head to Berlin. More precisely into a 12 square meter room without windows, according to this wonderful interview with the fine Northern Transmissions. This is where they recorded two brilliant EPs and apparently also their debut album Lately, Love Is Dead that came out this summer.
Their music is a great mix of guitar-driven indie pop, kind of 60s psychedelic and a generally optimistic dreaminess that is hard to resist. Narratively, they easily bridge the gap between love, loneliness and limoncello. It all comes wrapped into smooth vocals and a fine sense for melodies, balance and when to put their feet down.
They spent the last few weeks playing gigs in the UK and are now all ready to cross back into the single market. They are set to take stages in Hamburg, Monday October 12, Mainz, Hannover, Leipzig, Erfurt and finally Berlin, October 27 – tickets are available right here.
Reason enough to see what lies behind their creative force, in this 37th photo-interview in our ongoing series. Hit play and dive into the worlds of Baby Smith.
