Oxford ensemble Glass Animals and their tropically fused pop music have been a long time favorite at Poule headquarters. This month, the bunch are taking their phenomenal debut Zaba on a grand tour across the old continent, making a stop in Germany next week. If you are based in Berlin, you are actually in bad luck because their show has been deadly sold out for weeks. However, music enthusiasts in Hamburg and Nürnberg can clap their hands. Hamburg’s Molotow hosts them 25 March, Nürnberg’s Club Stereo 27 March.
You might already be digging their recorded material, but beware that with a live drummer and banging bass this quartet is an absolute charm on stage. Get behind that. Attached is Hazey off their debut album.
Another feel good anthem by the Poule’s favorites Freedom Fry. It don’t matter we can work it out is all you need to live by really. Marie and Bruce wrap it in the finest tunes and out comes their latest: Yeah You. The two are off to play the old SXSW in Austin next week, if you are around make sure to hang with them. Yeah You sounds like the perfect track to grab a few cold beverages with in a sunny afternoon at a Austin day party. Yeah you!
Absolute summer banger this one. Hat-tip to our friend Fredrik for the sharing this golden one. No Vacation are a duo from sunny San Francisco and their latest offering Lovefool is about the best it can get. Sunny riffs, soothing vocals and that fine sense for rhythms and harmonies that only the true ones have. So good. Get lost in their Soundcloud – pure bliss.
Now, while you mostly hear about historic venues getting shut down left and right of the Atlantic, it is now time to celebrate the birth of a red hot new place, a brand new venue dedicated to live music. At least here in Hamburg – where The Beatles played first don’t you know it – and where VOLT is opening its doors for the first time this Thursday. The first name on the ticket and the first of a hopefully long and prestigious history to begin are London ensemble Dark Sky.
The trio is not only gonna play a full live set but also going to join in on the whole DJ set extravaganza that is going to be the afterparty. With Hamburg legends Ralf Köster of Golden Pudel Club, Levente and Pelle Buys doing their thing. Really, if you call this fair city of Hamburg home and wonder what to do on a bright Thursday night – this is it, your chance to have attended the first gig at VOLT.
Attached is Dark Sky’s loving Imagin off their LP with the same name – out now on Monkeytown Records.
Whoa whoa whoa. Danish super group Wangel just came around with this new banger of track. Seoul sports a staggeringly beautiful production. The way Peter’s iconic vocals and those vast synths go together is beyond words to describe. Seoul is the first track of his upcoming EP – be sure to look out for that.
One of Team Poule’s favorite power houses The Circus House out of Denver, Colorado, released a red hot new joint last month. China Doll is a soulful twilight ride between synth lands, saxophones and angel like vocals. A laid back mélange of electro pop and the Dam Funk vibes of this century.
Don’t miss their banging Tasteless Kisses on the 12th Poule d’Or Compilation.
