SPOT Festival 2015: First Hate

firsthate-spot-small_mediumAgain, an absolutely brilliant line-up awaiting music lovers in Aarhus next week, when SPOT Festival is opening is long arms. One hot tip includes First Hate. The duo from Copenhagen might not look overly excited about it all but judged by their recorded material, this will be a gig not to miss. They released a brilliant, sort of tropical and light EP last year and now new songs start trickling out of their laboratory. Attached is their latest gem, a quite dark and dreamy number titled Warsawa featuring their trademark deep vocals.

First Hate will be playing Radar on Friday, 22h00.

Spot-Festival-640pxIt’s that time of the year again. Danish little hub Aarhus is opening its city gates to welcome the larger parts of Scandinavia and Northern Europe for SPOT Festival 30 April to 3 May. A four day extravaganza throughout the whole city – like a Danish version of South By Southwest: music, movies and beautiful people. The obvious names on the menu include Rangleklods, Reptile Youth, Kwamie Liv, Asbjørn, Sekouia and many more. And Like every year they managed to book a range of great small and rising bands, excited and hungry for an audience. Team Poule wouldn’t be Team Poule if hadn’t screened the entire line-up and are now ready to drop some names you absolutely cannot miss while being in Aarhus.

First on the list is hot duo Cancer, a new project by When Saints Go Machine lead singer and producer Nikolaj together with Chorus Grant lead singer and guitarist Kristian: great, soulful pop music with a pinch. Their debut EP Ragazzi came out last year on Tambourhinoceros, attached below is their new video for Age Of Pinball. One of the slower numbers in their repertoire. Make sure to give them a proper go on Spotify. They are playing Musikhuset Store Sal on Saturday, 17h45.

sherpaMiles deep pop coming in from Copenhagen again. Sherpa has put out this bad boy last week and you can be sure that it will be stuck in your heads for days to come. So pop this one on the radio for your next road trip. Windows down, pedal to the metal and burn that fuel. This is a pure driver song is what this is.

lukaCanadian powerhouse Carly Rae Jepsen has a new song out with Dev Hynes aka Lightspeed Champion aka Blood Orange which couldn’t be more slurpy and 80s and poppy. However, London sling shot Luka has edited the sweet bejeezus out of the track, slowing it down, looping it, turning it into a brilliant four minute laid track to groove out to on a summer festival as well as on your average week night at home. Be sure to catch one of Luka’s set around Europe somewhere, all dates and info here.

citizensSensation poppers CITIZENS! just released their banger of a second album European Soul this week – and are now packing their bags to take the bad boy across Europe for a few gigs, taking them to London Thursday this week, Paris on Saturday, Berlin on Monday next week and Hamburg on Tuesday, April 21st.

Readers of Poule d’Or are once again in luck because we managed to get our feathers on not one but TWO tickets for the show at Molotow in Hamburg waiting for one winner. All you have to do to make them yours is hit the comment section below and tell us your favorite song by the civil Brits. Extra points for throwing a facebook like our way. The winner will be picked Monday night, April 20th, 6pm sharp.

Attached below is the stellar remix by Cesare of their current single Lighten Up. Meanwhile, European Soul is still out on Kitsuné.

lisa_almaCopenhagen’s finest, Lisa Alma, is busy putting wheels on her upcoming second LP titled Sweater which will be out April 21st on Dumont Dumont. Meanwhile, she can’t believe how cold and refreshing the water is around this time of the year and presents the world with a second single off the new album. Fine is a featherlight pop song without being cheesy – which is something only the grand ones manage to achieve. Grand bliss.

Also, Lisa Alma will be partying hard through Germany next month. Playing Hamburg May 14th, Berlin May 15th and Cologne on the 16th. Make sure to catch the release party in Copenhagen on April 21st too.
