Monogold is a three piece indie band from New York. They just won the deli mag’s band of the year award for the categorie “indie/avant”. Gosh, don’t you just love categories… anyway, they rightly won because their 7-track record “We Animals” really rocks. It is also the mag’s album of the month. I’m no good at describing what something sounds like, so here is what the deli mag wrote: “Monogold’s new CD “We Animals” showcases the band’s evolution from a rather traditional shoegaze sound into something more ambient and “avant”.” So there you go. The band itself describes their sound as: “a hippopotumas, lady bug, stripped bass, dragon fly, chimpanzee, owl, swan, crocodile, ant, beaver, octopus, blue jay, tiger shark, lamb, garter snake, polar bear, centipede, sloth, bumble bee, sea horse, cocker spaniel, plankton, humpback whale.” I wonder what plankton sounds like..
You can listen to it on their myspace page. My personal favorites are “Dead Sea Minerals” and “Atlas”.
I blogged about the great track Fot I Hose by Casiokids in March last year – when my blog wasn’t really a blog yet haha. That song was stuck in my head all year. I read it is even featured in the video game FIFA10 by EA Sports which is quite an accomplishment I guess.. Anyway, last night, I finally caught them live and Fot I Hose was the last song in a 45-min set. Very laid back, very norwegian band. The singer took a bow after each song and waved kinda shy into the crowd haha. Brilliant show.

Good Shoes played as well yesterday. Right before Casiokids actually, which surprised me because they are way more popular right now and just released their sophomore album, while Casiokids have only released a couple of 2 track singles. They were really cool, too. Check their myspace page if you are not familiar with their work. Click here for Casiokids’ myspace page.
Just stumbled across these fellas:

Sunbirds.
They rock.
“Sunshine” and “Roses are blue” on their myspace page.
This young year sees yet another great debut album being released. Surprisingly, the, what i think, best track ‘Salt Air’ has not made the cut. Probably some legal issues since it was released on Kitsuné or something like that. Who knows.. anyway listen to the great, great ‘Unicorn’ on their facebook page and watch ‘Salt Air’ below:

Not red hot new, but still worth its own post: the german fellas of Frittenbude took We Are Enfant Terrible’s Seagull and plucked it (see what i did right there? HA!). The accompanying video is a masterpiece as is the song.
