Finally some new tunes by Waskerley Way! If you don’t know who that is – this guy. Michael has worked on new songs throughout this summer and a new EP entitled RPG is out now on his bandcamp, free for download. Seven tracks, “gritty, propulsive breakbeats with layered guitars, clarinet, and whatever else”. Super good.
The EP is the soundtrack to a potential computer game, with the artwork’s map (above) being a fundamental part of it. It comes with working QR codes, so get your iPhones out. High-res here.
Ah yes – finally some new tunes by London’s Waylayers! Absolutely loving this new track Magnets which will be out as a single November 26th. Look at that video! Beautiful. Rumors have it they’ll follow it up with a full-length release in spring next year. They dropped a fantastic EP a year ago and shared a track for Poule d’Or 9. It’s been way too quiet around the talented trio since. Can’t wait to hear more.
Start your week right – with smooth and sexy tunes by Philadelphia duo Work Drugs. Their latest gem Tigerbeats is off their upcoming album Delta which will be out next month as a limited edition on yellow vinyl through Bobby Cahn Records. This song however is inspired by a rather memorable night in July when Ben and Tom played at a bar in Philadelphia as part of an indie dance party series called Tiger Beats. And then this happened: Do You Have Photos Of The Couple Who Legit Did It In The Middle Of The Barbary Last Night?
“With our fuzzy memory intact, and plenty of photographic evidence to fill in the gaps, we pieced together the night and all of its debauchery into what has become, ‘Tigerbeats.’ So here it is, a tribute to that night, as well as the timeless teen idols that epitomize that party; shall they all remain forever young.” Epic video too.
It was a bit quiet around Finland’s own LCMDF (better known as Luscious Coconut Milky Double Fudge) recently. Apparently they were up to something though – their new EP Mental Health will be out October 29th. Maybe this is also the time to (officially) admit to the huge crush the Poule has on Mia and Emma ever since seeing them play at a Kitsuné show in Paris three years ago. They made some changes to their line-up since, but seeing/hearing them Double Fudging makes the Poule’s heart beat faster.
Well, anyway, back to this EP. Mental Health is the first in what will be a trilogy of EPs to be released on their own label FAN Recordings. Their press rider calls it “a curious mix of tough pop songs and girl power – with a hint of bubble tea, yoga and social media” ..!?!..right.. En tout cas, the EP comes with four delicious new songs, electropop at its best. They just released the second single Paranoia – which is attached below (because that’s what we do at Poule d’Or) AND a free download. Now that’s an offer you can’t refuse.
The two lily pads have been living in Berlin for almost three years now – and that is exactly where they’ll host the release party for this beautiful EP: October 30th at Prince Charles – presented by our friends over at Nothing But Hope And Passion, Berlin’s city mag Zitty and (drum roll) Poule d’Or! Put that in your calendar.
Meanwhile, Mia and Emma are still solving world/your problems over at Drowned In Sound – only Fridays though.
More good music coming from FEWS – who you might have danced to listening to Poule d’Or 10. If Things Go On Like This is only the second song to make it into the Poule’s inbox and it’s picking up right where 10 Things left us. Wonderfully dreamy guitar riffs, backed by blurry vocals. I’m liking this a lot. Keep ’em coming.
Lovers of Beach House and Tame Impala: Listen Up! These chaps from Norway’s Trondheim could be right up your alley. It’s fall and grey and cold outside, and everything you are looking for are noisy guitars, dreamy backing vocals and a wonderful blend of lo-fi indie rock? Enter, Angelica’s Elegy. Exhibit A, When You’re Asleep – attached below. Exhibit B, their adorable debut EP Cognitive Dissonance – out now on Riot Factory.
