The fruity loops of Emmecosta released a new song titled His Power Of Youth last week via fair old Stereogum. The three Italians based in Gothenburg describe the sound as post-club tropical indie soul so I guess anything goes. And while Team Poule isn’t one to look back and do year-ends-lists but rather taking a longterm view on things, these chaps are well positioned to be taking over the relevant stages of 2017 – and possibly beyond. His Power Of Youth is out now on Swedish indie label Icons Creating Evil Art. Team Poule says, right in the kisser this one.
All around sweet heart and hat lover Sway Clarke is busy touring the relevant parts of Germany right now, making a stop in Berlin tomorrow Nov 8th, Hamburg on the day after tomorrow and Cologne after that in support of big shot Dellé. Attached below you will find Sway’s latest single Tangerine, a beautifully shot piece of film and exhibit A to make you want to see and hear this voice fill the mighty halls and balconies along this tour. Tangerine can be found on Sway Clarke’s current EP titled Bad Love which is out now. Team Poule says, how about that, a Tangerine, the size of a Tangerine.
Inspired by a recent trip to Japan, consider this, totally un-Japanese, playlist for your new music diet. Izakaya Nights is a collection of the wildest and most entertaining recent tracks, curated by Team Poule. An izakaya then, describes the most common form of a restaurant in Japan, a loud type of after work pub with excellent food. Just what you need after day, lost in translation.
On the list below you will find a careful selection of new songs and some new artists as well. First off the bat are Malmö duo Wy – look out for their November dates in Sweden. Next up are Jagara, three sisters from London, Nottingham duo Moscow Youth Cult, Swedish producer Monuson, and Joel Rampage, of Postiljonen fame.
Main man BLVTH has surfaced a new single, the equally deep and cold Ocean – featuring Novaa. Vast synths that disappear into the dark depths, cold and silent, while at the same time opening up a hot bed of life and unknown energies. No details on whether BLVTH works on an album or some sort of bigger storyline, but this one could well be part of a bigger narrative. Team Poule says, he might just blitz one out.
Some might be familiar with Neu! the German 1970s krautrock band, formed by early-stage members of the legendary Kraftwerk ensemble. Here now come Outblinker, an energetic group out of Glasgow with a cover version of Neu!’s epic 10 minute Hallogallo single from the early 70s. A simple yet absolutely enlightening mix of dreamy riffs and synths, distinct rhythm and an ultimately swathing melody to it. While there still is a whole lot of Neu! in this one, Outblinker’s EP The Remains Of Walter Peck has more original tracks in the same vein – an absolute treat.
And one best to be seen on a stage I reckon! Lucky then, that they will be touring fair old Europe for the next five weeks. On the ticket are too many shows to list but they do make a stop in London, Geneva, Paris, a ton of Italian cities, Madrid, Barcelona, Montpellier, Bordeaux, Amiens, Tours, yadda yadda yadda, find all dates nicely listed right here actually.
Attached below then is the video accompanying for Hallogallo. A psychedelic super-cut from Koji Shima’s 1952 Warning From Space: a movie on the impending demise of planet Earth and mankind’s inevitable need to one day set off into deep space to have any hope of surviving as a race. Team Poule says, well, it ain’t over til it’s over.
Did you know that the San Francisco neighbourhoods of Marina, Mission Bay, and Hunters Point are all built atop a landfill? And that Al Capone while held in Alcatraz played banjo in the inmate band Rock Islanders? Pictured above then is San Francisco resident Little Glass Men and while it goes unreported if he resides atop a landfill these days, it is largely undisputed at Team Poule headquaters that his music is among the most exciting new sounds that hit our speakers this year. A vibrant mix of lo-fi grooves, vintage samples and live instrumentation – you might even spot a banjo in there – that creates an amazingly chill sound with a sunny West Coast optimism and freshness to it. The Flame is his latest gem, attached below, and comes off his album Until It’s Gone. Team Poule says, hang loose.
