So, SPOT Festival 2014 is a wrap. It’s been a first for Team Poule at this prestigious indie festival and Aarhus, you have been cold but you have been full of memorable moments. Nicely set in the city centre around the music hall, a conference center and a transformed train station, the musical line-up was heavily dominated by Danish acts.
Hands down. The one gig I look forward to the absolute most at SPOT Festival in Aarhus this week, 1-4 May is the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. This match-up made in heaven, Simon of When Saints Go Machine and San Diego’s NOTE The Rydah. The two have been making music together for quite a while and it’s a shame to admit they flew under the Poule’s radar up until now. They already released two great EPs a few years ago and now, at this year’s SPOT the duo will showcase some of their material – and sweet baby jesus, attached is On The Hunt off their 2012 EP Superconductor – one of the best songs to cross the Poule’s coop this year. Absolutely stellar track.
And most excitingly, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will begin their concert with a short film about their collaboration in the months leading up to SPOT, produced by KnockKnock. The duo started making music together online in 2007, but they did not meet in a studio until 2012 – and you know Team Poule loves a good short film documentary. Watch the hysterical trailer, here.
It’s almost here. SPOT Festival in Aarhus open its gates May 1-4. And this duo out of Copenhagen made up of two drummers is one of Team Poule’s total favorites in the line-up. Glass only have one song out yet, the banging Screams, and it already is very apparent that these cool cats are not messing around. Seriously good music. Cannot wait to hear from them – all within the cozy setup of SPOT Festival.
One week til SPOT Festival in Aarhus where on May 1st doors open for three nights of music, movies and general Danish extravaganza. In a good tradition of covering Danish festivals here at Poule headquarters, we like to rely on the vast knowledge and exquisite taste of fellow music blog and expert of everything dansk Good Because Danish.
To get in the mood of SPOT Festival’s ace line-up this year, we put together a mixtape with our favorites. Presenting: The Sound of SPOT Festival – as heard by Good Because Danish and Poule d’Or. Hit play, and if you will be at SPOT next week, let’s grab a couple of cold ones!
Only seven days til SPOT Festival – and you know Team Poule enjoys counting some days. Quick Quick Obey are one of the hottest names on the line-up, and that is just common sense. The Danish quartet serves a refreshing indie pop breeze that should be a great show on Saturday afternoon at Musikhuset.
Word on the street is, they are busily working on their debut album which is expected to be out this summer. Attached is Hold Your Breath, good music.
Amason are neither Brazilian nor your favorite online retailer – instead they are somewhat of an Swedish super group sharing members with Miike Snow, Idiot Wind, Dungeon and Little Majorette. They’ll be an absolute must-see at Aarhus’ SPOT Festival next month: 1-4 May.
Attached is their perfect summer folk’ish song Went To War.
