1st Pouliversary

[bandcamp track=2539668132  bgcol=FFFFFF linkcol=4285BB size=venti]

It was a year ago today that I started posting songs on a regular basis here .. what happened during the following 12 months largely exceeded my wildest imaginations. Starting Poule d’Or has brought me so much fun and joy and most importantly the opportunity to meet really wonderful people and new friends along the way. For that I’m really grateful.

First and foremost, major thanks to all the artists who supported Poule d’Or and shared their wonderful music for a compilation. The amount of positive feedback has really been overwhelming. I want to thank all you readers for showing interest in Poule d’Or and for downloading almost 3.000 compilations.

Special thanks for being supportive, helpful and just awesome to

Thank you for making 2010 the most amazing year. Much love and Happy New Year!

RÜFÜS – Paris Collides

RÜFÜS might ring a bell, they opened Poule d’Or 5 with We Left. The Sydney-trio has now finished its debut EP which will be available tomorrow (1/1/11 – whaaaaat?!) on their bandcamp page here. It features We Left and the above posted Paris Collides along with 3 yet unreleased tracks and a remix by Dante Nou. If you’re into electronic dance pop that doesn’t sound trashy at all, this will be right up your alley. The EP turned out fantastic and consistently follows what made We Left the brilliant track it is. They have scheduled a couple of shows throughout Australia, check their BandPage for listings.

Ok, so here is the obligatory and highly subjective look back at 15 albums that made the Poule’s plumage tickle most in 2010:

15. Gold Panda – Lucky Shiner

Vast soundscapes, so dreamy, so groovy. Outstanding debut.

14. MGMT – Congratulations

Why was everyone hating on this? I really enjoyed Congratulations. Siberian Breaks!

This just in “New Year”, via Germany Germany’s twitter account:

Happy new years, friends. I love you all. New track + free download. Next LP is almost fully written. I wish that it was ready to drop today, but it’s not. Soon, I promise.

Germany Germany – Happy New Years

The Fruhstucks – She Doesn’t Know

Recorded in the early summer of 2010, Sutja and Mjguel only yesterday unleashed this badboy to the general public. It’s a shame they waited half a year really because the three tracks on Even If You Lose Yourself are absolutely phenomenal and possibly their best work to date. Track list and all you need to know on their websitefree download here.

2010’s missed opportunities

2010 saw some truly great albums released. And some that did not ultimately live up to their -my- expectations, thus leaving the Poule disappointed. Yes. Now these albums are not ‘bad’ per se, they just made you think they could have been much better:

Fenech Soler – Fenech Soler

Really enjoyed the EPs leading to this album. The album not so much.
