Sydney’s own Kingsman Khan just pushed out this royal track of a single. On The Way comes rocking about as mellow as an orange summer sunset and extends itself nicely across the great plains of pandemic routines.
Further info is rather sparse, but this one has the feel of a proper mastermind behind the steering wheel, nothing shy of the greats that had you walking on dreams and the île de France burning more than a decade ago. It’s no secret that independent musicians’ income streams are volatile in normal times to say the least. With the pandemic canceling out basically all live shows, musicians are forced to step onto new paths, some with cold feet. Berlin’s fine artist agency Better Things could not see this anymore and last week launched their new merch shop and Artist Collection. For the latter they will team up with rising artists to create individually and lovingly designed socks, all limited editions at a fair price, with naturally all profits going 100% to the band.
First on the floor for the Artist Collection is Austria’s charming band Friedberg, celebrating the release of their upcoming EP Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah on March 19th, with a limited edition sock for just 12,90 euros. The socks come in a timeless white-creme colourway that is being framed elegantly by the trademark blue of Better Things and dotted by supportive little cog wheels. They come in two sizes because not all feet are equal. Order yours now and put the financial equivalent of 3.830 Spotify streams right into Friedberg’s pocket.

In the meantime, catch their new single Lizzy alongside pleasing visuals right here. Their new EP (eight Yeahs) will be out this week via the brilliant Marathon Artists.

As we are slowing sliding into season two of this old pandemic, New York’s own Punchlove come punching in spot on with a strong argument to think things over and enjoy things while they last. In Reverse is their brand new single and is heating up this late February afternoon like the urgent sign of spring we so desperately look for.
The track comes carried by lofty riffs and reassuring vocals, driving away on smooth flow while telling the story of hastily boxing up life abroad to return to the safety of the US coastlines. Jill and Ethan here are busy finishing up a debut EP that should be out later this year. In the meantime, catch this track and others on Team Poule’s weekly updated Spotify playlist over at www.pouledor.com/spotify.

2021 is rolling in full steam – or is it? Brooklyn’s Ackerman meanwhile are ploughing through the greasy routines of living through a pandemic in their new piece Daily Life that just came out the other day. The track is hazy dreamer of a pop gem, surfing the blizzard waves of being stuck in one place quite effortlessly.
Live dates are rare these days, but the group has a new LP up their t-shirt sleeves to be released later this year. So, don’t head off too far, keep your eyes peeled, but really, where would you go.

So, 2021 is off to a quite January start but let’s see what the fresh new year brings hey. Still, first, a quick gaze at some records that made it through the socially distanced extravaganza that was 2020. Popular mentions over at Pitchfork, Paste, NME, include Fiona Apple’s and Taylor Swift’s perfectly rated albums alongside trademark releases by Run The Jewels, SAULT, Tame Impala, Tan Cologne, Khruangbin, Phoebe Bridgers and Caribou.
Naturally, Team Poule’s focus lies off the beaten tracks, and despite the whole pandemic business, 2020 was marked by a good number of wonderful moments too. Here then goes Team Poule’s definitive list of ten or so albums that firmly stood out of the missed chances that 2020 felt like, in no particular order.
